Across the bridge to Amman

This morning we left Jerusalem for the Allenby bridge where we crossed through Israeli security and back over the Jordan river into Jordan. No problems crossing back, thankfully. No more checkpoints for now.

I mostly spent a lazy day at the hotel resting up for my re-entry into real life. Tonight I'm wandering around the big mall that is right down the street from our hotel. This, in my opinion, is as much a cultural experience as visiting a museum. I had dinner at the food court and watched the kids playing in small indoor amusement park. I'm hitting the grocery store on the second floor to use up those last dinars before walking back to the hotel.

There has been a lot to process these past 2 weeks. I've seen a lot of things that made me angry, sad, or both, but also things that are hopeful. The stories we've heard have been both heartbreaking and courageous. I hope to put together a slide show and/or video presentation of this trip that can be shared. The images are so much more compelling that what I can narrate.

I'll be back in Chicago at 11 pm local time on Saturday, and back in the Twin Cities mid-afternoon on Sunday. I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed! Please give a call when I'm back in town.
